Saturn Cottage Industries is a one-woman creative studio, producing treasured items for homes and bodies. Using responsibly sourced materials -fabric made in Ireland and recovered from local end-of-life textiles - each piece is conceived and crafted by the designer in Dublin and sold, online, directly to slow-fashion heirloom collectors. Saturn Cottage Industries is about traditional craft, material reuse, and a return to “cottage industry” as a slow, local antidote to wasteful overproduction.

When I was growing up, I always wanted to be a fashion designer. Saturn Cottage Industries is where I can express myself through clothing and textiles, while countering the issues that made me fall out of love with the fashion industry.

By making, myself, in Ireland, using fabric made in Ireland or materials recovered from Irish waste streams, I want to demonstrate and develop an alternative to overproduction and invisible labour, and work to mend the environmental and social damage of the fast-fashion industry.

Transparent, thoughtful sourcing and production, a low carbon footprint, and buying direct, are the pillars of my twenty-first century cottage industry.

Role at Saturn Cottage Industries: designer, pattern drafter, cutter, machinist, embroiderer, quilter, supply manager, administrator, cleaner, bookkeeper, social media manager, webmaster, blogger, photographer, ecommerce manager, packer, shipping manager.

Saturn Cottage Industries presents a new, 1-on-1, bespoke, textile repurposing concept:

CRAFTED TO CONTINUE

Where is that special piece of clothing?
Maybe it’s too small
Or too damaged
To ever really wear again
But
You still keep it?

At Saturn Cottage Industries
I see the history in your favourite textiles
And I want to give them a future.
Together
We can reimagine your precious but unusable pieces
As raw materials
To craft something
Especially for you, something
New
Useful
And beloved
Making your favourite things
Crafted to continue.

Responsible Sourcing

locally sourced new

linen woven in Ireland, imported cotton thread and cotton batting from an Irish supplier.

vintage

an extensive, ongoing, and multigenerational collection of “nice bits of fabric”, buttons, etc.

recycled

salvage and scraps, saved from damaged/worn garments, leftover from other projects.

💡 This is the source I am most keen to develop; both for Saturn Cottage Industries, and working towards better prevention and reuse strategies for textile waste in Ireland. 💡

natural materials

linen, cotton, wool, silk - natural fibres are strong, breathable, and biodegradable.

my labels are organic cotton, manufactured and printed in the European Union.
